Windsor Castle is believed to be the biggest colonised castles on the planet and the oldest in nonstop occupation (about nine hundred years). It is 1 of Queen Elizabeth’s three actual homes, & is tine & time again alleged to be her preferred home. The Royal flag soars above the Round Tower of Windsor Castle whilst Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is in palace – whereas, at alternative times, the Union Jack flag flies as normal.

Samuel Pepys once remarked Windsor Castle to be “the solitary most loving castle on the planet.” That was considered in 1666, and the equivalent is true today.

The opening of Windsor were in the early 7th century Saxon settlement of Windlesora, where the present day village of Old Windsor is situated. The town of Windsor is more accurately recognised as “New Windsor” – the phrase “new” being referenced in a strictly loose sense!

Windsor Castle was at first assembled by the distinguished William the Conqueror, as a result of his attack of England in ten sixty-six. The original construction was put up from wood with gravel defences. Palace held a noticeable strategic position on a steep mound on top of the River Thames, & was a division of a ring of fortresses all around London, with the Tower of London, one day’s trip away, at its middle.

The Palace was later rebuilt in stone, & increased in importance during the centuries. More recently Henry the 2nd created the Round Tower & the original stone outer wall. After the English Civil War, the building’s most important function became that of a royal home. Windsor Castle has remained largely unchanged ever since the start of the 19th century, apart from the repair work straight after the hideous fire.
