NFL Celebrations Out Of Control – Time To Stop The Charades!

It’s become an embarrassment to the NFL the way these million dollar babies are crying and whining every Sunday. Wide receivers yelling at their quarterback on the sidelines, because their not getting the ball on every play, or they took a hit god forbid, because the pass wasn’t thrown perfect. The overpaid and uncoachable soloists who often run them selves out of bounds, rather than try to get their team a few more yards, for fear of actually taking a hit that the fans would probably like to see, after all the trash talking by these ego maniacs. They can never do any wrong in their own eyes, nor will they ever shoulder any responsibility with their own mouths.

The NFL has got to put a stop to these foolish end zone displays, beginning with Terrell Owens, and now consistently with almost every touchdown you see. If you’re getting paid a few million dollars a year to score touchdowns, then act like you’ve been there before. You’re paid to play football and to entertain the fans with your athletic play, not for acting like a fool in front of millions of viewers. What a terrible example these role models are setting. Whatever happened to the simple spike and off the field you go? Everybody has to one up the next guy. They probably spend as much time practicing their celebrations then they do watching film for the upcoming game. What kind of idiot plays football with a pen in his sock? Are you kidding me?

This Sunday I watched celebrations that were at least 10 seconds long. I couldn’t even figure out what they were doing, it was like playing charades with a 4 year old. What are you doing buddy? Are you driving a car? No, that’s not it. Let me see. We’re you doing that “can you here me now?” thing? I have a great idea. How about a nice high five and getting your butt off the field so we can watch the rest of the game. Wow, what a concept. “Do you mean instead of acting like a mime and behaving like a fool, I should just go celebrate with these other guys on the side lines? Why should I share the spotlight with these mere mortals?” You scored a touchdown; you didn’t cure cancer or pull some one from a burning fire. You play football baby, you’re not a hero, and you’re surely not the second coming of the messiah, although you actually could be hero to the youngsters if you would only set a better example. Nobody feels sorry for you if you have a bad game and you’re unhappy with the lack of attention you received. You just made more money playing one game of football then some people see in 10 years or more. Stop whining and do your job. Every time you act out, you take away a piece of dignity from the sport. What right do you have to tarnish the image of all of the truly great and humble sportsman that came before you, and played for the love of the game and the pride of the fans? Please, somebody put a leash on these show dogs and put an end to their charades. I just want to watch a football game, not a half time show after every touchdown.

The most fundamental strategy in tennis is: Consistency

Hi, This is the second in a series of tennis tips. I don’t assume to tell you something new every time, however sometimes you need to hear something you already know one more time! As promised, this time I will give you some tactical advice. It’s called: CONSISTENCY! In tennis the basic idea is to hit the ball over the net into the field of the opponent and preferably one time more often than him/her. If you succeed you win the point. That’s the basic idea. Now I know there’s more to it, however since it is so basic, so essential, it’s worth paying attention to. On almost all levels you win more points of your opponent’s mistakes than you do of your own winners. Every now and then on a professional level you will see a player hit more winners than his/her opponent made unforced errors, but often it is the other way around even on that level. This balance between taking risk and not making to many unforced errors is very delicate and very important if you want to enjoy some success in tennis. A good example of this is the match Dutchman Verkerk played against Federer in Paris in 2004. Verkerk hit an enormous amount of winners, but unfortunately made almost as many unnecessary mistakes as well. His unforced errors evened out his winners. Although he had the initiative during most of the match, in the end he lost. Experience (gained from years of practice and playing lots of matches) and talent will help you decide when to go for the winner and when to play it ’safe’. This is called playing the percentages (or percentage tennis). It’s all about consistency in all game situations. (More about that next time.) All this is assuming you can already play both offensive and defensive shots. If you just started to play tennis the most important thing for you is: CONSISTENCY! Yep, just concentrate on keeping the ball in play. Try to get to every ball, run the soles off your shoes and hit the ball to the other side. Be persistent and you’ll drive people crazy! “All he/she does is bringing back the ball”, they will say. Lose Weight by Sleeping?

Do you feel that you need to lose weight? Well then don’t just count calories. You might want to count sheep as well.

Recent studies have shown that sleep deprivation disrupts a series of metabolism and hormonal processes. It causes increased hunger and affects the body’s metabolism making it difficult to lose and control weight.

Lack of sleep causes a hormone called cortisol, which controls the appetite, to take excess calories and store them as excess body fat. In addition, sleep loss interferes with carbohydrate metabolism which may cause high blood glucose levels. The excess amount of glucose encourages the overproduction of insulin, which may lead to diabetes or even obesity.

Furthermore, sleep deprivation can promote weight gain by affecting our behavior. People who lack sleep tended to crave sweets or high carbohydrate, high fat food with low nutrient value. They tend to snack on chips, cakes, pastries, burgers, fries, soft drinks, etc. Though the short-term rise in blood sugar, brought on by these snacks, gives a surge of energy, the extra calories are not needed by the body and must be stored as body fat.

These calories are not so easily shed than taken. When they are sleep deprived, people are often too tired to exercise or they work out less intensely than usual. They commonly feel exhausted and lack the energy and motivation to do even simple exercises. They rather go to sleep, or eat, than go physical. In due time, the calories that are gained and not easily burned are deposited in the body as fat.

Some people may require less hours of sleep to be in top condition during the day; while others need more than 10 hours. But experts agree that most people need at least eight hours of sleep each night to give themselves enough energy to exercise, eat right and keep off those unwanted pounds. Yet, according to a poll sponsored by the National Sleep Foundation, only 30 percent of adults get eight or more hours of sleep on weeknights; while 52 percent do on weekends. A third of adults reportedly sleep no more than six-and-a-half hours nightly.

In fact, disruption in the sleeping patterns in the United States and in the industrialized world is thought as one of the main reasons that people are getting overweight. People should start making behavioral and lifestyle changes now for a better, healthier tomorrow.

Dan – A Great Coach

Dan – A Great Coach
My wife, my daughter and I had been eagerly anticipating my daughter’s first lesson with Dan, her new batting coach. Of course, we heard how good he was. Our next door neighbor spoke glowingly of Dan’s expertise as a batting coach for girls.
For the first lesson the three of us ( my daughter, wife and I) were nervous about how this arrangement would work out. Would she respond to him, and could she relate to him so they could develop rapport so needed between coach and student? Would his rotational hitting style be the framework from which our daughter could expand her hitting and start driving the ball on a consistent basis? Practicing after the lessons were just as important as the lessons themselves. Would Manteee apply his style? Our concerns were soon answered.
After the first lesson, I knew, that Dan was the man. He listened to our daughter. He spoke to her and not at her. I could see that the relationship was developing between my daughter and her coach. She was following his instructions.
After a few weeks, I could see improvement. Her bat was making that solid sound hitters love to hear when they sting a ball. She was hitting in her league games with more authority. Driving the ball to the outfield. I could see her being much more confident. She is talking doubles and triples for the first time. I am thankful, appreciative and impressed for her
In my opinion if you or your son or daughter is interested in excelling as a hitter, having the right batting coach could make a huge difference. The time spent one on one developing her swing and stance has made my daughter a much better hitter in as little as six weeks.

Reverse paddling

Reverse paddling is an important kayaking technique.

While forward paddling is probably one of the most commonly used paddling strokes, reverse paddling is just as important. In fact, before you go kayaking, you should definitely practice both forward and reverse paddling to make sure that you have the necessary skills so that you do not end up in trouble while you are out at sea.

First, when you are reverse paddling, you should make sure that you are holding the paddle lightly, just like you would if you were paddling forward. This will help you have more control over the paddle, and it will also keep you from getting injured while you are paddling.

Next, you should make sure that you are using the back of the paddle blade when you are kayaking. While you should put the blade into the water near your feet in order to paddle forward, reverse paddling requires you to put the blade into the water near your hips instead. Then, you should push the paddle toward the bow of your kayak while turning the trunk of your body.

You should make sure that you always keep your elbows bent while you are reverse paddling, that way you will not hurt yourself. You should pull your paddle blade out of the water about when you are even with your knees in the kayak.

You can improve your reverse paddling power by reaching further behind your hips.

Finally, it’s important to make sure that you are checking behind yourself and over your shoulder while you are reverse paddling. That way, you can make sure that you are not going to run into anything dangerous.

This stroke is even more important since some of the techniques that you will learn by working on it are important in order to learn the emergency stop technique.
