Many avid snowboarders will soon be dusting down their skiing gear and shooting away trying to find the deepest snow. And undoubtedly the result of your carbon footprint will be about as far down the list of vacation to dos as a xmas cracker after xmas. Merely last year, a late snow hit the broadsheets and tourists were panicky about the smattering of snow disappearing almost as soon as they landed.

Ski company Chalet 1802, placed at the base of Monte Bianco in Chamonix Mont Blanc in the Alps, is one of the only autonomous businesses to go carbon negative and offer skiers an environmentally friendly alternative whilst reserving their ski vacations. Chalet 1802 owner Tyla stated: Last year was quite a shock with the hottest wintertime in 50 years in the French Alps. French ski fields for example Luz Ardiden, Les Houches and Grand Massif has difficulty. It was temperate and the snowfall didnt settle so much of the early season ski season in the French Alps was patchy. We chose to become carbon negative to help preserve the skiing resort.

Tyla said: We are not attempting to prescribe to clients but I feel its important to grant the clients the choice without increasing the price of the ski holiday. If the client book with us and vacations in our skiing chalet they may more than off set their carbon footprint and we absorb the additional prices. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub – customers desire lavishness but not at the expense of the environs, so we looked at ways of diminishing the affect of a guest flying over here for a holiday.”

Chalet 1802 have moreover linked up with organisation Climate Care, who tackles climate change by providing carbon dioxide reductions for individuals and businesses.
