Halifax Dry Ski Slope

British snowboarding has moved from amateur to world class in a number of years. Back in the 1990s, there were few British snowboarders representing the sport on a national level, such as Rob Yeomans and Mark Hartley. With the development of new facilities in the UK such as Halifax dry ski slope, the sport has developed in the UK and spawned some real world class talents like Dominic Harrington and Ben Kilner.
The facility at Halifax includes some big jumps, and an amazing quarter pipe. Bored kids from the local area began to take lessons and started to ride the slope more nights. The relaxed atmosphere offered the perfect escape for most the of the children in the local area. They could hire ski and snowboard equipment such as snowboards, snowboard boots, and snowboard bindings; and hit the slope for very little cost.
These kids started riding more and more regularly, and started to develop real talents in the sport. Summer holidays presented the opportunity to go to Europe and attend a summer camp, where their freestyle skills could be developed. Some of the children who were dedicated to the sport have gone on to become famous within the UK snowboarding community, and have even landed themselves sponsorship deals; meaning some are able to spend entire ski seasons at resorts in Europe, and compete at international levels.
UK snowboarding has a long way to come before it is as big as skateboarding or football, but considering there are few locations in the UK that receive any snowfall at all, a town like Halifax is doing extremely well at producing young, talented, and even world-class snowboarders. The sport is set to develop as it receives more awareness from events such as the Winter Olympics and the Winter X-Games. At the next Winter Olympic games, there could even be a Brit on the podium.
