Virgin Media seems to be focusing on bringing new offerings and technologies to its customers. It had, very recently, announced that it was aiming to offer TiVo software in its set-top boxes by the year 2010.

Now at the IPTV World Forum, Virgin Media’s Executive Director of Online, Alex Green has publicised the company’s intention to bring out a player, which it appears will rival Sky Player and BBC iPlayer. Mr. Green said that online content that would be subscription-based, will be available both online and as well as on mobile devices. He further said that subscribers would be able to view their favourite shows on demand with the best quality viewing experience that today’s technology can offer (see Virgin Broadband deals).

This announcement by Virgin Media was quickly reported by Tech Radar, the technology website.

Mr. Green also hinted that Virgin Media Player might also provide access to online HD content as well, saying that the service provider’s recent offerings of HD TV like ITV Eurosport, Discovery, E4, Film 4, etc, would give it a base to build on, although this was not confirmed.

With the TiVo software in place, popular content is accessible through YouTube or online retailer Amazon at the click of a button through mobile devices. Considering that both TiVo and the player will have online features, it seems very probable that both these services will work together in some way.
