All online poker players have experienced sessions where they lose a significant portion of their stack early on, often to a bad beat from a loose player who sucks out on the river. These situations are very frustrating and it’s easy to get upset and blame another an opponent for bad play. But letting emotions and anger get to you is the worst thing to do. It is a recipe for tilt when you cannot think straight to make sound decisions.
Instead, every good poker player must accept that these bad scenarios do sometime occur. You have to be mentally able to withstand these types of attacks and bounce back from them. Make a mental note about the player who trounced you with a bad beat. Rest assured that this type of bad play will occur again and that you can prepare to be on the winning end of it.
Do not get stuck in negativity. Do not let revenge drive your play. Instead look for opportunities to exploit bad play. Remain composed and calm. Be ready to shift your play and adapt to the skill levels of your various opponents. Review your own play to identify where you made mistakes and were weak to avoid making the same errors against the same players
The only way to overcome bad beats and getting stuck in a hole is through mental discipline to stay focused on playing your best game. Observe your online poker opponents, pinpoint whatever weaknesses and tells you can observe, and do your best to exploit them.
