He remarked that introducing this amended law would only fuel gender discrimination. Adding further, he cited a case that was made in the Court more than ten years back contesting this same change. The eligibility period for unfair dismissal claims was increased to two years in the 1980s. However, this change was contested in 1999-2000, under the case Seymour Smith v Secretary of State for Employment.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">At that time, the case was made by the claimant on the basis that the two-year eligibility period for <a href="http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/Dismissal/DG_10026692">unfair dismissal</a> claims is unfair towards women. At that time, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) stated that the number of female workers complying with the two-year eligibility period was found to be significantly smaller in comparison to the men who could comply with it. Hence, the basis of the claim that the two-year period was discriminatory against women was confirmed. Moreover, it was not necessary to show that the bias against women would be for a long and unrelenting period, a smaller amount was also enough. The House of Lords finally declared that the two-year eligibility period for unfair dismissals was discriminatory and the claim made was correct. However, the two-year period was decreased to one-year in 1999.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Jonathan Exten-Wright remarked that the government&#8217;s present plan to increase the eligibility period could witness another similar type of case to be contested against the government. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Hence, TUC recommends review of the minimum dust levels across all types of occupations and advices the companies and establishments to take precautionary measures for the sake of their employees. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The survey, which included the views of more than a thousand companies, indicated that the speed at which the employment market was recovering is going to slow down drastically in the coming months.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">
<p class="MsoNormal">The LMO net employment index shows the balance value of the companies planning to raise their full recruitment level to those who plan to decrease their overall employment levels in the coming Quarter 3, 2011. The latest <a href="http://www.cipd.co.uk/research/_labour-market-outlook">Labour Market Outlook </a>shows that this difference has fallen to -1 from the +3 existing in the last quarter. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">
<p class="MsoNormal">Due to uncertainty, companies planning to hire employees on long term basis, measuring till June 2012 is very bad, as the net employment index for the 12-month period has shown a dip from the +2 in the previous quarter to the -6 in Quarter 3. Public sector shows the same uncertain side with their assurance continuing to be negative like the -52 recorded in the last quarter to the -51 in the coming quarter. However in comparison to the weakening public sector, private sector seems to be showing growth, although the speed of growth is expected to be +23 which is far lesser than the +32 in the last quarter.<span style="">  </span>Manufacturing sector&#8217;s confidence level also shows pessimism with the net employment index reducing to +11 in the coming three months from the +32 in the previous quarter.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The survey results also continue to show further difference between the net employment indexes observed in the firms located in North England regions as compared to South of England.<span style="">  </span>The net employment index for the South of England through all occupational sectors is +10 whereas the same for North of England is -6.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Gerwyn Davies the Public Policy Adviser at CIPD stated that growing thoughts of instability and doubt about growth scenarios in the near future in both the country and other international markets are upsetting recruitment levels. This is also disturbing the government considerably in its efforts to stabilize again the market in terms of investment and global trading, added Gerwyn Davies.</p>
