DIY wind turbine then don be… it is definitely something you can do. Ready-made wind turbines built by manufacturers can be quite expensive running into the thousands of dollars. So if youe loaded and want to save some time and effort then go ahead and get a preconstructed windmill. But Im guessing because youe reading this article that you would prefer to do it yourself and spend your money on other things. Of course just having a wind turbine is not enough for a complete power generation system. Other things you need, include a bank of batteries to charge. Lets face it. Every time you want to use the big high-definition TV doesn mean the wind blew blowing and supplying a home with plenty of free electricity. So youll need to have batteries that can be charged while the wind is blowing to save up power you can use later.Residential wind turbines, sometimes referred to as “small wind” are windmills that generate less than 100 kilowatt hours. The way it basically works is like this. If you build a small capacity windmill to help power your home, generally speaking you will want to stay “on the grid” rather than go completely independent. This way you can still get power from the electric company when there is not enough wind, and when there is excess wind, you can actually sell your power back to the utility company. Another option is to build power your home with a combination of wind power as well as solar power which you feed into a back up battery system so that you have power at night or when the wind is down.
